Snippers Snippers Originals Rum
The Originals: Make Your Own Barrel-Aged Rum
Create your own rum-like drink with our oak chips from used rum barrels. Add a clear spirit like vodka to the chips, and let them slowly impart their rich flavor and color, just as if your drink were aging in a real rum barrel! Enjoy the authentic depth and character of barrel-aged rum without the hassle of actual aging.
How to make it?
- Add the Alcohol
Start by adding your favorite clear spirit, such as vodka or gin. Ensure the spirit contains at least 30% alcohol. Avoid using rum, as it will not have the same effect. Note the bottling date and the type of spirit used on the label. If possible, use leftover spirits you have at home.
- The Aging Process
After filling your bottle, let it age in a cool, dark place. The oak chips will gradually impart their rum flavor and warm color. Feel free to taste occasionally to experience how the flavors develop. This process takes about eight weeks, but you can also see what happens if you let it age longer.
- Serve Your Own Rum
After eight weeks, it's time to serve your own rum. Strain the liquid or carefully pour it off before drinking. Make sure no oak chips end up in your glass. Also, never eat the oak chips.
- Cheers!
Enjoy, and drink responsibly!
